Client Challenge

The Hampton Roads Youth Hockey Association was working to determine the feasibility of replacing its aging Iceland Family Skating Center with a new Warrior Ice Center in Virginia Beach. The goal was to address unmet local demand for ice time and position the facility to attract regional tournaments and sports tourism.

Approach

Victus Advisors conducted demographic and socioeconomic analyses, evaluated the local and regional ice facility landscape and gathered feedback from stakeholders and event organizers. The work informed detailed projections for facility design, market demand, annual utilization, operating performance and long-term economic and fiscal impacts.

Benefits to Client

The study projected that the proposed Warrior Ice Center could deliver more than $15.5 million in net annual economic output, support 246 local jobs and generate nearly 33,000 hotel nights each year. These findings equipped the Hampton Roads Youth Hockey Association with the data to advance planning, funding applications and community partnerships for the project.
